Cloth Diaper Question

We've been using a garbage can with a fairly tight seal for our diaper pail.  The problem is, it's not ours so after we move (still no details on when that will be) we'll be looking for something new.  I'm fairly happy with what we have so I'm tempted to go out and buy the exact same thing, but if there's something better out there, I'm all ears!  What kind of system do you have for storing your dirty diapers until laundry day?  Also, any suggestions for keeping odours to a minimum during hot summer days?

you don't know me, but i like reading your blog because our kids are super close in age. I saw this post and had to comment...

I use a Mother-Ease pail, which has a charcoal insert in the top and it literally eradicates any smell.

I cloth diaper and previously worked for a family who cloth diapered (they used a garbage can) and the difference is huge. The only time we ever have an odor is if one of us accidentally leaves the lid propped. We don't even have to use the handles. This pail is amazing.

hey Niki, I am using a pail with a snap on lid. It looks kind of like a small garbage can. It works well and only cost around $9 at Walmart? I think is where I got it. I have also seen them at the local Home Hardware store as well. As for the smell I usually stick the pail outside overnight to let it air out and it seems to help...we'll see once summer hits if it still works to help it smell better!!

We just use a large wet bag. It's sooo handy to not have to wash out a pail every time. I hated that, which is why I bought the wet bags. Love em. And as for the smell, just wash more often in summer. I know it's a pain, but it's really best to wash every other day. Add some baking soda to your pail/wet bag as well.

p.s. I line the pail with a large wet bag. I have two so the pail always has one in it while the other is drying. I wash/disinfect the pail every few months.

We just use a small garbage can that has a snap on lid and put kitchen garbage bags in it, and we keep the pail outside all the time so we don't notice the smell.

That is so funny the comment you left on my blog! I don't remember that :-) but that would be about the time I started being called Tara...

We use motion sensor aluminum garage cans. It comes in a set of two cans at Costco. The tall one I use a wet bag to line it for the diapers and the little one I use for a garbage can for the wipes. Since it is aluminum it doesn't keep smell in like plastic but I also put a charcoal pad in the bottom too just in case.
